a good design

i found an interesting discussion on core77- IS IT GOOD DESIGN IF IT NEEDS A PROTECTIVE CASE?

i don't think a good design need a protective case.  design is functional, isn't it?  thus it should work in every aspect.
but it's always exceptional when it comes to delicate devices such as cellphone, ipod, etc., at least to me.  i guess portable electronic devices always need protective cases.  i wonder if it is possible to be durable yet delicate at the same time?!

faces

these people in the painting are famous or influential figures in history.  i thought it is a very interesting picture yet educational.  it tags when mouse over, and links to wikipedia when click on the person.

i found it exciting when i recognized these characters.  it's like looking at your yearbook, and try to find someone you know.

DEsigning DEvices

Electronic devices always seem cold and lifeless.

They are more appealing and vital when adding design elements.

Adidas Watermelon

Watermelon has always been my favorite fruit since I was little.  It is very exciting to see many products are inspired by this summer fruit.  It already says summer with these 3 colors.

Each of the design has different approach to watermelon (inside, outside or both patterns) but they all keep the essence of this fruit.  I used to have watermelon with seeds but nowadays there are seedless watermelon.  I wonder what the design would look like without the seeds, can it still be recognized as a watermelon?

Piegato One

A single and colorful shelf designer by Matthias Ries, the later version of Piegato Bookshelf.
It is one flat piece.  You fold each precut to construct the shelf.
I love this design!  very simple and straightforward.  It uses every single inch of the piece without wasting it, and adding any extra part is unnecessary.
